What to use for a lawn in a diorama

Hey all!   For some reason I decided to try my hand at making a diorama depicting an average back garden scene with a shed and stuff, but I'm stuck as to what I can use or do to create a realistic looking lawn.  I tried using that green dust or grit stuff you can get from model shops, but end result doesn't look real, looks too even.  Any ideas welcome.

If I remember correctly an older brother of someone I knew in my junior school days used things like different types of cloth, carpet, gauze and such depending on the scale of the diorama and how thick he wanted the grass.

My uncle used to use things like this for his model railway.  Made very realistic looking grass.

Cork and lint gives good grass-and-earth effects if done right.

You actually make it seem so easy with your presentation but I find this matter to be really something that I think I would never understand. It seems too complex and very broad for me. I am looking forward for your next post, I’ll try to get the hang of it!

Erm does this have anything to do with dioramas?  Back on topic, I was given a dolls house as a present a long time ago and I think that had green coloured cloth or similar for the front garden.
