There have been numerous referral requests in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics that were denied, including one in the men's hockey match where GB clearly scored what should have been a goal.  The puck clearly went over the goal line in that match!  What I don't get is, how can it be 'legal' for a referral request to be denied by refereeing officials?  The IOC needs to change the rules on this!

I agree...  Doesn't make much sense having the referral option if it can be refused at an official's discretion.  Reminds me a bit of the Frank Lampard goal that was not awarded even though video replay technology was widely used even then.

Yer!  Absolutely!  No question a referral should be given if asked for in something as important as the Olympics.  Erm - it's a ball, not puck.;)

I'll never forget that disallowed goal, nearly threw my shoe at the TV.  Back on topic, the Team GB goal should have been awarded what with the video replay evidence and the referral request which would have shown the same.  Very bad refereeing imho!
