Last night (22/11/20) the myth about flying or magic carpets entered my head and got me thinking could such a thing have been possible? They're mentioned in many ancient tales, etc, and apparently King Solomon had one that measured 60 x 60 miles! :o
-
How big? I mean, that's huge! Where you read this?
-
Could've been a bit like hot air balloons just rectangular, dunno. :-\ As to the last part, surely that's symbolic and wasn't literally a carpet.

Good idea for like hot air balloon, and no, I accept it wouldn't literally have been a carpet. It's just what this myth says. ???

Very interesting topic! This was moved here from 'Off-topic discussion' due to high number of topics pushing this one down the list.

I know about King Solomon of course, but must admit didn't know about any flying carpet, whatever size. Where did you find this out?

Go to wikipedia, search for King Soloman's flying carpet.

You're talking centuries before BC LOL! There were no hot air balloons until about the late 1700's. :P

I think the qualifier is 'a bit like ...'. For all we know, a few elites-in-the-know of the time could have known things that most were unaware of, plus there are other factors such as high temperatures and sierra's that could have aided flotation. I like the idea. 8)

Depending how you define carpet, there could have been, but forget 60 x 60 miles. :o
-
Maybe it doesn't literally mean 60 x 60 miles, just as 6 days in a certain biblical reference didn't literally mean 6 x 24 hours. ::)

Perhaps more of a flying city than carpet? I must be losing it as well. :P

Was wondering the same thing lol, but nodding dogs and such in the back of cars have been around since the 70's, but you never know...
