1. In the search bar type Windows Security2. Click on Windows Security app in top-right pane3. Click on Virus and threat protection4. Click on Settings under Virus & threat protection settings5. Set Real-time protection to OffHope that helps.
Bare in mind it might not be a good idea to have real time protection turned off permanently even if you could do it.
Antivirus Service Executable is always running in the background hogging cpu + memory which causes increased hard drive/fan activity. This is very distracting and annoying, is there a way of stopping it? Thanks if anyone can help.

It's distracting to the point where I can't concentrate on what I'm doing, so glad I can turn it off at all.
