How do I stop Antivirus Service Executable

[LISTR-93]

Antivirus Service Executable is always running in the background hogging cpu + memory which causes increased hard drive/fan activity.  This is very distracting and annoying, is there a way of stopping it?  Thanks if anyone can help.

1. In the search bar type Windows Security
2. Click on Windows Security app in top-right pane
3. Click on Virus and threat protection
4. Click on Settings under Virus & threat protection settings
5. Set Real-time protection to Off

Yeah this will work, but it's only a temporary fix as ASE will turn real time protection back on.

Yes, you can't turn it of permanently iirc and I agree with the OP that the systems fan doing overtime is annoying.

Bare in mind it might not be a good idea to have real time protection turned off permanently even if you could do it.

Yep, prob why you can't do it.  But the steps given by cybernut is useful as I didn't know you could turn it off at all.
